MHMic — Microphone and Headset (1.2 UPDATE)

MHMic — Microphone and Headset (1.2 UPDATE)

by Kosobrazik

Description

MHMic restores the console headset behavior in the PC version of Manhunt. When the player speaks loudly enough into a microphone, hunters hear the noise and may investigate it. The mod uses the game’s existing hearing system, with four loudness tiers ranging from quiet speech to shouting. Speech does not alert hunters while a menu is open or the game is paused.

The HEADSET page in the game’s settings lets players adjust microphone sensitivity and the Director’s voice volume, choose a recording device, and select separate playback devices for game audio and the Director’s lines. Game sounds can play through speakers while the Director speaks through headphones or the speaker of a USB-connected DualSense or DualShock 4. Both volume scales default to the middle position, 0 dB. The microphone follows the Windows default recording device, and the Director’s voice plays with normal game audio unless another output is selected.

Device choices can be cycled without closing the menu, and clicking a dB value selects it without confirming the entire page. Confirm saves the changes; Cancel restores the previous settings. Long device names are displayed in full. Microphone and Director output changes apply immediately. Main game audio also switches immediately when changed from the main menu; changes to that output made from a level’s pause menu take effect after restarting.

Automatic calibration and background noise filtering help distinguish speech from room noise. Microphone noise can produce feedback on the game’s radar. The HEADSET page also provides microphone and playback tests: press V, or the right-stick button (R3/RS) with an updated ManhuntGInput. Playback tests use the left, right, and both channels and last no longer than 10 seconds. Microphone testing lasts three seconds, with its radar wave visible only while the test is active. Pressing the test button again stops the test.

Button hints follow the current input device. With the matching updated ManhuntGInput, the headset notification uses Cross on PlayStation or A on Xbox, with icons or button names following the controller mod’s settings. Keyboard users confirm with Enter. Mouse clicks do not dismiss the notification.

Interface language selection through MHMic.ini: follow the game language, choose Russian or English, or load a custom UTF-8 translation. MHLL support and translation samples are included.

MHMic requires the PC version of Manhunt, a microphone, and a 32-bit ASI loader. Place MHMic.asi and MHMic.ini together in the scripts folder or next to manhunt.exe, depending on the loader’s supported installation layout. Keep only one installed copy of the plugin and back up your INI before updating to preserve your settings. The Visual C++ Redistributable is not required.

ManhuntGInput is optional. An updated compatible build is required for R3/RS testing and controller confirmation of the headset notification. Director audio through a gamepad requires a USB-connected DualSense or DualShock 4; Bluetooth gamepad audio is not supported.

To report a bug, describe the problem in the comments and explain what happens in the game. For diagnostics, set Log=1 under [Debug] in MHMic.ini and restart the game. Reproduce the issue, then attach MHMic.log from next to the plugin. Save the log before launching again, as each launch overwrites it. Logging is disabled by default.

MHMic is an unofficial fan modification and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rockstar Games or Sony.
